2012 Spring Schedule

PLANO, TX - Plano West Lacrosse’s head coach Gary DeSerrano released the team’s 2012 schedule on Monday, Dec. 12. This year’s Varsity 16-game regular-season features four home district games, four away district games, three at Plano West Track Field (PWTrack) non-district games, one at Clark/PSA non-district game, and invitational and two road trips.

Plano West Varsity opens the season at the Jesuit Invitational on February 11-12. Last year’s tournament featured several of the top Division I and Division II teams in Texas.

The season ramps up with three non-district games versus Anderson at PWTrack, Hillcrest away, and Alamo Heights at PWTrack. These three games should warm up the Wolves for their first district game.

Plano West first district game is with Episcopal School of Dallas (ESD) on Feb. 28 at home. ESD reached the state semi-finals last year and will be a good challenge for the Wolves for their district-opener. ESD is led by their new head coach Pat Kennedy, previously coaching at the College of Mount St. Joseph’s in Cincinnati.

Plano West second district game is with St. Mark’s on Mar. 6, another state semi-finalist last year. Their third district game is with Coppel on Mar. 9, last year’s state champions. The Cowboys are led by their new head coach Alex Poole, previously coaching at Greenhill school and SMU.

Plano West faces Jesuit on Mar. 22 at home and Highland Park (HP) on Mar. 27 away for their next two district games. The Wolves head for Houston for road trip games with Strake Jesuit and Kingood on Mar. 31 and Apr. 1.

The Wolves complete regular-season district games with Allen on Apr. 4 away, Southlake on Apr. 14 away, and Plano Senior High on Apr. 20 at home. This is Plano West’s final game of the regular-season.

The 2012 season marks the 10th varsity lacrosse campaign for the Wolves. Plano West won the Division II State Championship in 2005. Last year marked a new beginning as they moved up to Division I. This year the Wolves continue building their DI caliber team as they set their sights on returning to the State Championships.

(Plano, TX) – The 3rd Annual Plano West Alumni vs. Varsity game was held on November 26th, 2011 at the Plano West Senior High track field. This was the third year that Plano West Lacrosse alumni from across the country returned to Plano to take part in the tradition of playing the current Varsity team and sharing in the club camaraderie afterwards at the tailgate party.

The weather wasn’t very good but the lacrosse game was a lot of fun. The first quarter was a see-saw battle with the Alumni and Varsity trading goals. By half-time the varsity was leading 4 to 3.

At half-time the Plano West Junior Wolves took part in the tradition and played an exhibition scrimmage. This was a unique opportunity to experience the past, present, and future of Plano West Lacrosse.

In the third quarter the varsity lengthened the lead to 6 – 3 and then the Alumni started coming back and eventually tying the game at 6 goals apiece. During the fourth quarter the Alumni pulled away to a four goal victory.

The Alumni offense scored ten goals and applied consistent pressure on the younger Wolves. The Alumni offense was led by Robert Jones, Ridge Flick, and John Casmedes. The Alumni middies worked hard to control some of the face-offs and the action in the middle of the field. The Alumni middies were led by Jordan Latimer, Brandon Pak, Kyle Bowman, Mike Ritchie, Stephen Frapart, Chase Freeman, Kyle Freeman, Thomas Broekhove, and Garrett Ford. The consistent Alumni defense was led by Tim Pak, Dodge Salisbury, Nathan Pardee, Evan Pixley (nice goal), Daniel Broekhove, and Max Miles.

The goal tending was outstanding as usual with Justin Chinch between the pipes. The oldest Alumni player was Tim Pak from the class of 2004. The class of 2006 had six players attend the game. 2011 Alumni Nick Gailey played goalie for the varsity and made many great saves. The Varsity offense was triggered by Luke Rivera, Ryan Schaefer, and Daniel Kravit. – Coach Dave Flick

Spring 2012 High School Tryouts will be here before you know it. They are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, December 3rd-4th (10th-11th rain days) from 2:00-4:00pm at the Plano West Track Field. We expect about 70 players will tryout for the Varsity and Junior Varsity teams. There will be 28 players selected for each of these two teams. This means we expect some players will not make the cut. All players wanting to play in the spring should be in attendance.

Student-athletes like Jon Vincze know the best time to prepare for Spring Tryouts is now. He had never played lacrosse until fall 2010. Prior to that Jon played only football. Although he had never picked up a stick until his junior year, Jon didn’t let that stop him. He registered for fall season and went to work learning everything he could at practices, games, and tournaments. Jon continued his efforts outside of practice repeatedly testing and honing his skills. His hard work and dedication paid off last December when Jon was selected for the Varsity team.

Plano West Lacrosse alumni from across the country will return to Plano on November 26th at 1:00pm for the 3rd Annual Plano West Lacrosse Alumni Game. This year the game is scheduled at the Plano West track field behind Plano West Sr. High School (5601 West Parker Road, Plano). All Plano West Lacrosse players and parents are welcome to come out and meet our alumni who helped build our club’s 10 year tradition, watch a great game, and enjoy the tailgate party afterwards.

Plano West youth and high school teams will compete in the Lone Star Shootout on November 19th – 20th at Five Star Park (4100 Blair Oaks Drive, The Colony). Our Wolves will compete with over 100 teams from Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Tennessee.

The U.S. Men’s U-19 team will participate in an exhibition game against a Texas All-Star team and host an instructional clinic for youth players at the Lone Star Shootout. This is the team that will represent the United States in the 2012 FIL Under-19 World Lacrosse Championship in Turku, Finland next July.

Billy Bitter will also be at the Lone Star Shootout. Former University of North Carolina star and current attackman for the Denver Outlaws MLL (Major League Lacrosse) team will make an appearance.

Plano West 7th/8th Royal, 5th/6th Royal, and 5th/6th White teams are competing in the McKinney Fall Tournament on November 12th and 13th at the Al Ruschhaupt Soccer Complex (1986 Park View Drive, McKinney). This is the second year our Jr. Wolves have competed in this tournament. Please come out and show your support. Go Wolves! Tournament Schedule.

Our rained out Plano West Play Day from October 9th has been rescheduled for Sunday, November 6th.  Everything will remain the same EXCEPT that games will begin one hour earlier due to the time change. Over 30 youth teams will compete on Sunday, November 6th from 12:00pm – 6:00pm at the Renner Middle School Fields. A Sunday filled with lacrosse, family, and fun!
